Energy tourists are flying south for winter rather than heating their homes

A UK company is encouraging travelers to book a winter holiday to avoid high energy bills.

TravelTime World launched a marketing campaign last Friday called ‘The Heat Is On’ highlighting the low cost per day of long-stay holidays.

Ashley Quint, a holiday designer at the company, said the idea came about after reports that the energy price cap in the UK could be as high as £7,000 (€8,120) a year by April 2023.

What is the cost per day of spending this winter abroad?

An 80 per cent rise in the energy price cap was confirmed from October that could take the average UK household’s gas and electricity bill up to £3,549 (€4.116) a year. The next rise between January and March could cause it to skyrocket up to £5,000 (€5,799).

Forecasters are now predicting that it may rise as high as £7,700 (€8931) by April.

(CNN) — After two years of a pandemic, ever-changing travel restrictions and mandated Covid-19 tests, the summer of 2022 signaled vacations would finally be back in vogue.

With most Covid-19 restrictions lifted, planning a vacation became easier and many trips that had previously been delayed for pandemic-related reasons were finally able to take place. But in practice, flight cancellations, worker shortages and general travel chaos have robbed many travelers of their long anticipated stress-free bliss. And for those lucky enough to have managed a smooth getaway, the return to reality is hitting even harder than usual.

Whatever your vacation story, here are five tips from the experts to help you deal with a case of the post-vacation blues.

1. Plan a buffer for when you come back

A couple celebrated their 49th anniversary isolated in their Vienna hotel room, racking up $3,000 in extra lodging costs. An annual beach house getaway ended with 14 of the 29 guests testing positive for covid. A woman discovered she was infected after landing in Seattle for a family reunion — and decided to keep celebrating, double masked and socially distanced.

As many Americans learned this summer: The pandemic isn’t over just because you’re over it.

Subvariants of omicron were so contagious that those who had managed to avoid contracting coronavirus for more than two years could no longer outrun it, forcing even the vaccinated to cancel trips, isolate abroad or overhaul itineraries. Those who had already been

Five of the best sustainable holidays across Europe | Green travel

Green Wellness Route, Slovenia

This summer the country’s tourist board launched a new Green Wellness cycling route. A looping cycle trail of nearly 200 miles linking natural spas, it starts in Ljubljana and heads north towards the Austrian border and then south-west towards Croatia, winding through mountains, plains and vineyards. There’s a castle on an island, a beer fountain and miles of wild flowers. The first leg ends in medieval Kamnik, a red-roofed town of castles and monasteries with a view of the mountains, Slovenia’s biggest arboretum (sporting 2m tulips in April) and the Terme Snovik spa in the forested Tuhinj valley.

Resorts along the route are all certified by Slovenian Green, which encourages recycling, renewable energy, arriving car-free, eco-friendly cleaning, locally grown food, natural building materials and so on. The spas offer pools fed by thermal springs, mineral waters to drink and wellness experiences involving salt, saunas,

Travel: Can a caravan holiday ever actually be fun?

Claire Spreadbury and her family check-in to the newly-refurbed Parkdean Southview.

Family holidays are expensive. And with the cost of living continually on the rise, taking the kids anywhere can seem like a massive drain on your finances. So, how about going cheap, cheerful and old school, with a good old caravan in a holiday park?

Caravans are actually having a bit of a moment in the sun right now. Kitsch decor and funky designs are springing up in vans available to rent pretty much anywhere, but ours sits among lines of many others within Parkdean’s Southview holiday park, just a 10-minute drive from Skegness town centre.

Of course, you could be anywhere. The idea of these holiday parks is they contain all your entertainment needs, so you don’t have to step outside the resort if you don’t want to – but it’s nice to have a beach not too

These Will Be The 10 Worst Airports For Labor Day Weekend Travel

Flying over Labor Day Weekend? You might want to pad in some extra patience if you’re leaving from Chicago’s Midway International Airport. So far in August, nearly half (47%) of all flights have been delayed, earning Midway the dubious distinction as America’s worst airport this month for disruptions. That also makes it the number 1 airport to avoid over Labor Day Weekend, according to the deal-finding site Hopper.

The Windy City’s largest airport, O’Hare, has tallied up 27% flight delays in August, which, amazingly, is enough to make it the less risky option if you intend to get to your destination on time.

Likewise, let’s say you’re flying out of the Washington DC area for the holiday weekend. At Baltimore & Washington International Airport (BWI), a whopping 43% of flights have taken

How to alleviate the headaches of holiday travel

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The kids aren’t even back to school yet and we already need to talk about your holiday travel plans.

The time to book is now if it’s not too late already.

The picture isn’t pretty. We’ve all been seeing the issues the airlines are already having. Well, there is no sign it’s suddenly going to get better in November and December.

Want to fly over the river and through the woods to see grandma for Thanksgiving?

“It is a little late actually for planning at that time over holiday periods,” said Joe Weigler of Shadyside Travel.

“The longer you wait, the worse it’ll get because I don’t think you’re going see an increase. The capacity is very minimal by the time that the holidays roll around,” Weigler added.

AAA Travel’s Marita Williams agreed.

“If you’re only doing air, we’re good now,” Williams said.

Because we don’t have

Restorative, sustaining and affordable: the joy of a go-nowhere holiday | Travel

If you have a social media account and live in Australia, the chances are you spent this winter in one of three ways: on the slopes; on holidays somewhere in the northern hemisphere; or on your phone, inundated with envy-inducing images from those enjoying the former options.

Once upon a time, being a member of group three would have been torturous to me: friends sunbathing in Greece, influencers posting reels from the ski lifts, colleagues roaming around the south of France. But after two years of being unable to travel, my post-pandemic burnout meant that even contemplating a big holiday (read: parenting my children in a more exotic location) filled me with dread.

Instead, I holidayed from home, which basically meant sending my kids to school, taking time off work and doing absolutely whatever I felt like. I took baths, I went on walks, I experimented in the kitchen
